30th Anniversary of MLK Day
Today's MLK Holiday marks the 30th anniversary of the national holiday. MLK Day first became a holiday in 1986 after years of political struggle to get the civil rights leader a day of recognition.
As the nation celebrates the holiday the Rev. Bernice King, Dr.King's daughter, was asked her thoughts on the holiday. "What most people around the world want, whatever nation they live in, is the freedom to participate in government, the freedom to prosper in life and the freedom to peacefully coexist."
Happy MLK Day!
