Finding Dory grossed more than all of the combined new releases this weekend to spend its' second week as the #1 film in the U.S.. The Disney/Pixar movie brought in an estimated $73 million this weekend. Independence Day: Resurgence sold $41 million in tickets this weekend, a dissapointing opening for a film that cost over $165 million to make.
The big surprise of the weekend was The Shallows. The thriller about a killer shark brought in an estimated $16.7 million. Finishing in fifth place was the civil war and big budget epic, Free State of Jones, bringing in just $7.7 million in box office reciepts.
