Movie Review-Arrival

Arrival is an intelligent sci/fi movie. The are not a lot of big explosions or battles in outer space. In Arrival the problems that are caused by the arrival of huge egg shaped space crafts in cities all over the world are attempted to be solved by thinking and communicating with the aliens; rather than blasting the objects out of the sky.

Amy Adams plays Dr. Louise Banks, a linguist who's called on by the army to help figure out how to communicate with the alien craft. Jeremy Renner is a scientist who is also recruited and Forest Whitaker plays an army colonel who's in charge of the entire operation. The movie lays out two plot lines for the audience to ponder. One is if all of the governments around the world had to work together to save the world; could we do so? And the other heavy concept the movie presents is the aliens advanced knowledge of time and space.

Dr. Banks (Amy Adams) discovers that the alien's way of thinking is much more advanced than ours. The don't think in linear time like we do. They can be in the past, present or future in their thoughts at any time. The big climax of the movie is when she tries to get that message out to all the other nations, who are on the brink of World War III.

Arrival will make you think and it's easily one of my top movies of the year. The movie is rated PG-13 and runs 116 minutes. On my "Hollywood Popcorn Scale" Arrival rates a JUMBO. Hollywood Hernandez
