The third installment in the xXx series is my favorite one yet. Even (in real life) at age 49 Vin Diesel can still pull off the role of the xtreme sports star turned secret agent. xXx's job description is, "kick some ass, get the girl and try to look dope while you're doing it." Diesel's got that down to a science.
In xXx RETURN OF XANDER CAGE Diesel is brought back from self imposed exile when his handler Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson) is killed in a terrorist attack by someone who gains control of a device, called Pandora's Box, that controls every satellite orbiting the earth.
Telling the good guys from the bad ones turns out to be a challenge when the team of mercenaries who stole the box and the high ranking government officials each reveal their agenda in possessing it. To track down the box xXx puts together a new team of extreme thrill seekers who all have a different set of skills with weapons, high tech gadgets and, of course, hand to hand combat.
xXx RETURN OF XANDER CAGE is a non stop thrill ride of extreme stunts and chases with a good deal of explosions and fight scenes thrown in for good measure. I saw the movie in IMAX 3D and my mouth was wide open for the duration of the film. Pay the extra few dollars for the "IMAX Experience". You'll get plenty of "ohhs" and "ahhs" for you buck.
There are quite a few surprises in the movie, such as former NFL Tight End Tony Gonzales in the role of a special forces soldier. The other surprises would be a spoiler for the movie so I'll keep those to myself.
xXx RETURN OF XANDER CAGE is rated PG13 for a lot of gunplay and violence and there are also a few sexy scenes where Xander "gets" the girl. It runs 107 minutes and on my "Hollywood Popcorn Scale" the new xXx rates a JUMBO.
