It was a good night for "Black Hollywood" last night at the 89th Oscars as three of the major five Oscar categories were won by African American actors. After a surreal ending, where LA LA LAND was mistakenly announced as Best Picture by presenters Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty, MOONLIGHT was correctly given the award for Best Movie. Price Waterhouse Cooper, the Oscar accounting firm, released a statement after the show and they apologized for the mistake and a said an investigation into exactly how the error took place will be launched.
Mahershala Ali, from Moonlight, won the Best Supporting Actor Award and Viola Davis earned a Best Supporting Actress award for her performance in FENCES. The other two major winners were Casey Affleck for Manchester by the Sea (Best Actor) and Emma Stone won Best Actress for LA LA LAND.
