Movie Review-Smurfs: The Lost Village

This weekend another new animated, family film is coming to your local theater; SMURFS: THE LOST VILLAGE. In this new Smurfs movie a secret map sets Smurfette (voiced by pop star Demi Lovato), along with her friends Brainy, Clumsy and Hefty Smurf, out on a journey to find a secret village through The Forbidden Forest where some other, previously unknown, Smurfs may exist. Also, if you listen closely some other big name actors voice parts in the movie, including Julia Roberts, Mandy Patinkin and Michelle Rodriquez.

The film is beautifully animated and both kids and adults can enjoy the humor and the suspense of the movie. It runs just under 90 minutes (the perfect length for wiggly kids who get bored quickly) and is rated PG. Old school Smurf fans will enjoy the nostalgic feeling of the new film, which adds a few more new Smurfs and changes some of the old magic from the TV cartoon (for example the Smurfberries were red in the TV show and they are purple in the new movie). But the movie never gets away from its "Smurfy" roots.

And obviously pre-teens will enjoy the adventure too. My focus group was my five year old granddaughter and my 11 year old grandson and they loved it.

On my "Hollywood Popcorn Scale" Smurfs: The Lost Village rates a LARGE. Hollywood Hernandez
