Kevin Hart beats out Aquaman for #1 at the Weekend Box Office
Out performing expectations for ticket sales The Upside, starring Kevin Hart, beat out Aquaman for #1 at the box office this weekend. The Upside boasted tickets sales of $19. 5 million while Aquaman, which had been #1 for the past three weekend's, was #2 with $17.2 million in box office receipts. However, The D.C. Comics movie topped the $1 billion mark to make it one of the biggest grossing movies ever.
The movie was the first for STX Studios, which acquired the film from Harvey Weinstein's now bankrupt movie company. STX had the movie edited for a PG-13 rating (The original movie was rated R.). The gamble seems to have paid off, bringing out a broader ranged audience in the movie's opening weekend release.
